Brown Paper Bag Birthday Party Pinata

Has your child been bugging you because he or she wants a pinata for the upcoming birthday? Would you love to give your child this wish but pinatas are just way too expensive? Dont worry! You and the child will be happy when you make the pinata yourself. The suggested pinata is cheap, easy to make, and will thrill every child at the party.

All you need to start making the pinata is a brown paper bag. The bag can be any size you have but a grocery-size bag will hold quite a lot of candy and small toys. Fill the bag about a third to halfway full of the goodies. Roll the top of the bag down a couple of times then staple or tape in place. The folds will help sturdy the top of the bag so that you can hang it without it tearing.

Poke two holes in the top folded part of the bag. The holes should be about a third of the way from the sides to the center. The pinata will be suspended with rope through these holes. For now, youll continue to create a colorful pinata for the children by using things you may have around the house. Cut fringe from decorative paper, wrapping paper, or even foil. Cut the fringe, tape or glue it together end to end, then glue or tape it around the bottom of the bag. Make another row of fringe and tape or glue it above the first row. Continue making row after row of fringe and attaching it to the brown paper bag until the bag is completely covered. Make each row a different color, make each row the same color, or create a different pattern. Instead of using the decorative papers to make the design on the bag you can also create a bag person. Glue wiggly eyes, a pom-pom nose, and other facial features to the front of the bag. The front would be the side where the fold can be seen at the top of the bag. Now create hair for the bag person by gluing on lengths of yarn. The yarn can hang down and cover the complete backside of the bag. Make a completely design for the pinata by making it into a house. Use stickers, markers or other items to make the brown paper bag into a cottage or house. Construction paper cutouts can become windows, doors and more. Use colorful pieces to create a roof. Glue tiny flowers into paper window boxes made from construction paper. You can even take steps to make the house look like your own. You can use other brown paper bags besides the typical ones. A brown paper bag that holds a tall bottle, like a liquor bottle, can be used to make the pinata, too. Fill the bag halfway with small candy and toys. Fold the top down twice and tape or glue in place. Now glue on strands of yarn, fringed paper or facial features from a craft store. Or, just tear pieces of tissue paper and glue them all over the bag. The various pieces of paper can be used to create a really colorful pinata. After youve finished your brown paper bag pinata use the holes at the top to hang it. Thread a piece of roping through one hole and over to the other. Tie a knot in the ends and hang the pinata on a branch or other object. A couple of good hits with the bat and the candy will spill for sure. Dont have a brown paper bag? Use a plastic grocery bag. Fill it half full of goodies then tie the ends shut. Tape or glue lengths of yarn, pieces of foil, paper fringe or other embellishments. Torn pieces of construction paper work well to make a particular colorful pattern. Store-bought pinatas can cost quite a lot of money, but youll never know, because you can make your own. When the goodies are falling out, and the kids are scrambling to grab them, the wont be aware of how much it costed. Theyll just know theyre having a blast and grabbing lots of goodies!
